All content available on your sites must be accessible, including PDFs, videos, and Microsoft documents. Although making such content accessible is not something you can do with School Loop's Content Management System, we provide the following as service to our clients.
PDFs
To create an accessible PDF, first create your document in an authoring tool that supports accessibility features, then convert that document into a PDF. Examples of authoring tools are Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.org Writer.
Microsoft Documents
Applications such Word, Excel and PowerPoint can all create accessible PDFs. This is accomplished using tags, which screen readers and other assistive technologies use to present information to disabled users. Additionally, other techniques such as the use of alternate text for images and meaningful hyperlink text are also employed when creating accessible documents using Microsoft products. Complete documentation can be found on Microsoft's support site for Office applications.
Audio and Video
Transcripts, audio descriptions, and captions are all used to make audio and videos accessible. For more information, visit the W3C Multimedia Accessibility FAQ page.
