Tips & Tricks: Special Characters

Those of you who need to type accented characters in email or other documents are probably familiar with how that’s done – for example, alt codes for Windows users.  Unfortunately, those techniques won’t work for web based applications like School Loop. The problem is that web handles accented character in its own special way. We’ll spare you the technical details and get right down to how to enter these special characters in our system.

On any form in the School Loop system where the text box includes a rich text editor with its MS Word like toolbar, you’ll find a “Special Characters” button (pictured below).

When you click this button, a character pallet opens. As you hover over each character, a larger version of that character appears in the preview pane on the right. Just click the desired character or symbol to insert it into your news item, event, assignment, note, or web page.
