Pasting Text into Forms
Tip: Word documents have invisible formatting that cannot be read by forms. As such, punctuation and accent marks often come up as question marks. This is because in the United States, message text that is composed in plain ASCII (pronounced AS-kee, for American Standard Code for Information Interchange) translates almost universally between all the different computer systems and e-mail programs out there. ASCII is limited to 128 characters, and many of those are nonprinting control characters like tabs.
This is often a problem when text is cut and pasted from word-processing programs into e-mail messages or forms. It can sometimes contain characters outside of the basic Ascii set, and those characters are the ones that typically show up as question marks when a form or a mail program doesn't know how to display them.
